The Burke Museum

The Burke Museum, affiliated with UW, is the Washington State museum responsible for maintaining state collections of natural history and cultural heritage. 

Free for UW students, $14 for non-UW students, free the first Thursday of every month

Burke relies on its Native American Advisory Board (NAAB) for guidance on policy, programming and advocacy. The NAAB is led by an Executive Committee who are elected by Tribal governments to guide the board.

Very interactive and visually engaging. If you are interested in learning more about Washington's natural history and cultural heritage it is a great place to visit. Afterwards you can also walk around The University of Washington campus.

The Japanese Gardens

3.5-acre stroll garden located in the Washington State Arboretum UW Botanic Gardens. The garden attracts over 100,000 visitors annually.

Renowned landscape designer Juki Iida planned the Seattle Japanese Garden. He used both traditional Japanese plant materials and Pacific Northwest natives. Iida also famously travelled to the Cascades to scout for and select a large number of granite rocks to install near the waterfall.

There are small hills, greenery, waterfalls, rivers, ponds, islands and Koi.

Conservatory

Modeled after London’s Crystal Palace it is a Historic Victorian greenhouse anchoring Volunteer Park on Capitol Hill since 1912. The glass greenhouse is surrounded by the beautiful scenery, and elegant lawns of the celebrated Olmsted park.

Volunteer Park Water Tower

Built in 1906, the Volunteer Park Water Tower is located in the southeast corner of Volunteer Park. The tower stands more than 75-feet tall. There is 360 degree view of Seattle at the top.

Seattle Asian Art Museum

\The Seattle Asian Art Museum is a museum of Asian art at Volunteer Park. Part of the Seattle Art Museum, the SAAM exhibits historic and contemporary artworks from China, Korea, Japan, India, the Himalayas, and Southeast Asian countries.

Volunteer Park

Volunteer Park is loaded with fun activities and incredible history. Concerts are hosted in the summer on the outdoor stage, theatre events such as Shakespeare in the Park, there is lots of green space, interesting architecture, and a reservoir.

The Frye

The Frye Art Museum is an art museum located in the First Hill neighborhood of Seattle, Washington, USA. The museum emphasizes painting and sculpture from the nineteenth century to the present. Its holdings originate in the private collection of Charles (1858–1940) and Emma (d. 1934) Frye.

The Fryes' collection consisted entirely of representational works, with a tendency toward "the dark, the dramatic, and the psychological" rather than "the genteel."

Charles Frye's required that admission always be free. These conditions were enough to keep the Seattle Art Museum from being interested in his collection.

 In 1981, a group of visionary Pioneer Square art dealers printed the first walking maps and painted footprints on the sidewalks outside leading to their galleries. On the first Thursday of the month, they collectively encouraged arts patrons to come and tour each of the Pioneer Square galleries in the spirit of having a community event. First Thursday soon evolved into the popular gathering
